Nimstead Updater guide
Ignore, skip or snooze Windows app updates.
In Nimstead Updater’s private beta, ignore excludes a supported application from the normal update choice, skip applies to one offered version, and snooze brings an update back after seven days. These are app update controls; they do not configure Windows operating-system update policy.
Update an individual application
Review the supported update and its source, then follow the confirmation. Updater serialises changes rather than running a collection of package operations at once. A vendor installer or Windows may still request permission or display a prompt.
Ignore, skip or snooze
- Ignore an application when you want it excluded from the normal update choice. Review that decision when your needs change.
- Skip a version when your decision applies to the offered release rather than every future release.
- Snooze for seven days when the update should come back to your attention later.
These controls do not make an old version secure or change its support status. They let you record a decision about timing or scope.
Example: postpone an app update
For example, if an illustrative application offers version 2.5 but you need time to review it, snooze records a short postponement. If your decision is specifically to avoid 2.5, skip that version. Ignore is a broader choice about the application. None of these choices installs a fix or establishes that the older version is safe.
Optional automatic app updates
Automation needs explicit consent. The current application must remain open or in the system tray. Do not assume updates will run after the application is fully closed, or that every installer can proceed without a prompt.
Windows operating-system updates are separate
Windows software-update installation is experimental in the private beta. Its optional helper has separate configuration and qualification work is incomplete. Driver and firmware offers are limited to what Windows Update surfaces; there is no universal OEM updater.
Microsoft Store
The supported Store CLI path updates with consent. It has no check-only API for previewing pending Store updates, so a Store action should not be described as a harmless inventory check. The exact preview requirements are listed on the Updater product page.
If you are unsure
Leave the update for manual review. Read any installer prompt, save your work and check the result after the operation. The website’s examples never install or change anything on your device.
Check Updater’s current availability and Windows requirements before trying a beta workflow. There is no signed public installer available yet.
